Time to break up from the daily routine and go to Norway to visit parents and friends again. Yay. I hate travelling… ’twill be good to get some time off uni though. Haven’t had any time off in a long time.
Got a taxi to Heathrow, waited for a couple of hours (with my recent experiences with flying, I think it is probably best to allow for some leway…). Got to Oslo and was surprised when I found I could get a plane ticket for not much more than a bus ticket back home. That’s a pretty good offer, with the bus taking about 7-8 times longer and all :)
Already miss my SO…

An extremely short update, just to prove that I’m still alive… Too much coursework at the moment keep me from updating more often. Sorry…

Another almost insultingly short update I guess… Oh well. On with it ;) During this week I saw the funniest description of pointers and indirection I’ve ever read. It happened on the comp.lang.c newsgroup, and the author was someone calling himself “the Magical Pony!” (exclamation mark and all). I saved a copy, so you can read it yourself :)
I have been hugely busy with coursework lately, and a huge desire to write a “string library” that will read in a C-string of any length (i.e. it should use realloc() to get more memory if need be). Just to get experience of how it is done of course. Also, I have a desire to start all over again and try to do all the K&R2 exercises. And do them properly this time. It will only be the third time I try ;) (and I never got past chapter four…).

Today I finally had enough, and walked out of a lecture because the room was too cold. People over here find it immensely funny that I—who am from Norway, a country they quite incorrectly link to Fimbul winter—absolutely cannot stand cold weather. It apparently does not sink in that you hardly choose the country you are born in. Additionally, it does not occur to people in this country that windows and doors can be closed, thereby keeping the heat on the inside where it belongs.
Dave found a treasure today while roaming the cupboards, namely eight half-litter cans of lager! What is especially good about it is that Dave rarely drink lager (he prefers bitter) which means more for me :)

My brother turned 19, and I managed to give him a call. Hooray for me ;)

Whilst reading up on some system commands for a coursework in Operating Systems, I accidentally bumped into how I can get colours on the screen using the ncurses library. I also got a bit more insight in how one can allow for resizing windows. Good fun :)
Finally got my head around to do some proper coursework, but alas, not the one that is due in first… At least it is something. What I have done includes writing a short essay on “Compatibility in OS Design” and starting to write a short essay on mutual exclusion. What’s left then of that coursework is a short “compare and contrast” essay on DOS, UNIX and MS Windows (any flavour).
