Much configuring of Spamassassin, whilst at the same time debugging my procmail setup. Spam has mutated since I wrote my spamfilter in procmail; it doesn’t quite work as good as it used to. I’ll probably cut it down quite heavily.

Put another harddrive in Gil-Galad (my headless server box), and booted it. Logged in via ssh and reconfigured dhcp to use a different address range. Tried to find out why ‘whereami’ wouldn’t work, and it turned out the semantics have changed a little in the config file between the versions in woody and sid.
Also compiled a new kernel for Gil-Galad and installed it (thank you, Manoj Srivastava, for make-kpkg! :)

Spent some time being ill, then went to the computer fairs in TCR, because my housemate needed a new graphics card. He came back with a new aluminium case, psu, motherboard, processor and ram, but no gfx card :D
Invited for dinner at a friends’ house just as I was installing Spamassassin. Good fun.

Sorted out some paperwork. Spent some time reading the comp.ai.games frequently asked questions. Went to Area51 (the uni nightclub) in the evening. Some alleged celebrity called Tony Blackburn were supposed to DJ. What a tosser. Went home early.

Another attempt at cake today. This one didn’t cook long enough. However, it would have been great if it did.

Up at preposterous time to wait for BT engineer to come and install my phone line. Ate the rest of the cake from last night.
Ordered adsl connection from plus.net. Quite happy with them promptly assigning me a “backup-connection” via modem that I could start using straight away. Good service, that. Nice to have internet connection at home again.
Went to Brick Lane for a curry with Martin, Dean, Will, Kim and Janet plus a couple of Martin’s friends (Tim and Chris). Good fun.

Lazy day. Watched Formula 1 for a bit in the morning, read a bit about RCS (a revision control system). Came to the conclusion it is probably the most convenient version control system for my config-files and other single-file stuff; arch or CVS are overkill for those. Especially since they are not meant to be maintained by multiple users. Spent some time checking in initial revisions for config files etc, plus writing backup scripts for said RCS files. This could be done quite simple, since I only need to tar down all files that ends with “,v”.
Watched Star Trek in the afternoon.
Suddenly became unusually peckish. Naturally, this didn’t happen until after the store’s closed. Spent some time pondering what to do about it, then ended up baking a cake. Without a recipe. I didn’t have all the ingredients I wanted, so I had to wing it. The cake turned out… umh …memorable.
