In the early hours of the day (about 2am) I, err cough, cleared some space in the freezer by eating the rest of the banana and fudge ice cream.
Helped my housemate get his xbox networked in Linux. Apart from that, I spent almost the entire day writing code for a coursework. We’re supposed to write code for a feed forward neural net with backpropagation of errors. This neural net should then be able to predict exchange rates between pounds and dollars. I’m at the step where I think I have all components needed for the task, and the code passes the highly scientific tests “it compiles” and “it runs without dumping core”. Unfortunately it does not yet produce sensible output.

Went to see Red Dragon at the local cinema in the evening. Mein Gott! Run, don’t walk, to catch this one! Was made painfully aware that I need a new hat (I lost the old one on the bus a week ago). My ears are still cold.

Spent a good few hours playing around with METAPOST, trying to make pretty graphics for a coursework. It took a long time, but it was worth it. I don’t fully understand it, of course, but I’m now at a point where i can make some simple pretty graphics.

Learned about the “set nopaste” option in vim. Very happy about that! Should save much pain and agony in the future.

Bought some lightbulbs and finally got this place lighted up. It is a bit easier to navigate around the place now.
Read and thought a bit about my upcoming project, when I suddenly realised that my initial plan for implementing the library was fundabentally flawed. The reason for this is obvious, but not worth explaining here. If you want to know, send me an email :P The upside of this startling revelation is that it looks like my project may become much easier to go through with than originally assumed.

No lecture today because of the tube strike. This is the second one I miss. I couldn’t go to the replacement lecture either. Bugger.
Fixed a few bugs in my procmailrc file. The bugs only affected messages tagged as spam so it was not crucial, but nevertheless annoying as it resulted in them not being transported to the spamfolder so I could verify that it was spam.

Called around to a few universities and asked about M.Sc. degrees. Seems admission dates are a lot later than for B.Sc., so no need to stress yet :)
