Dave just knocked on my door, bringing me a mug of tea. Outstanding. Just what I needed. Thanks mate!

I am ill. I managed to get the flu on Wednesday, but exactly how is beyond me. Starting to get a bit better now, but still not feeling great. This bodes bad for my deadlines next week…

You’re lost in a maze of network and power cables running everywhere, all alike.

I’m not lost, Shirley, I can spot my room at, um, at least 50 paces.

Decided to tidy up some of the cabling mess in my room. It looks a lot neater now, and I can actually see the floor where there earlier was just a huge bundle (or pile, rather) of cables.

Dell repairman came around and gave me the second new keyboard for one of my laptops. He was very baffled that I had managed to wear out the CAPS_LOCK key since April, which is the last time I got a new keyboard for it. What I didn’t tell him was that I remap the CAPS_LOCK key to Control :P

Went to see 28 days later. Very good movie in my opinion. Really scary.

Saw Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Not bad, actually. Quite good in fact. One of the actors’ “oh-my-god-I’m-so-scared” face was rather distressingly unrealistic, but apart from that it was okay.

Implemented something I’ve been thinking about for some time. My genetic algorith library previously used a whole byte to store one bit of information; now it use only one bit for that. There’s a computational overhead, of course, but it shouldn’t be too large. The benefit doesn’t kick in at short gene-lengths (not at all for really short ones under 8 bit).

Did the bulk of the work for the second neural net coursework. Also did the bulk of the work for the tutorial exercise we have to hand in for the same module.

Today I managed to:

  • Get run down by the car I sat in a split second before.
  • Finally get a power supply for my laptop that works AND for which the plug fits properly.

Wow. Long time since last update. Sorry. (Who am I kidding? Is there anyone apart from myself actually reading this blog?)

Here’s some stuff that happened in the last few weeks, in no particular order:

  • Helped a friend moving houses. I got a cake in return that I ate in less than 10 minutes. Yum!
  • Bought a “new” laptop second hand at TCR. It’s a really sweet piece, but the battery does not work (I knew this before I bought it) and there’s issues with the power supply, but I’m hoping to resolve these on Saturday.
  • Started looking into using imap, now that I have several machines.
  • Saw the movie “Triple X” on the local cinema. Action all the way.
  • Got an article published in Linux Magazine.
