I just started my own little text-based othello game, since I couldn’t make a recent version of gnome-iagno build. I’ll probably end up snarfing some code or ideas from it though.

Today I went for a stroll from Waterloo to Trafalgar Square with some friends. We were accompanied by several hundred thousand other people. Met yet another couple of friends in Trafalgar square and swapped a copy of “The Art of Computer Programming, Volume 1″ (I happened to have two copies…) for “Learning Perl”. Some of us fought our way to Brick Lane for a curry while the rest went on to Hyde Park.

Back to reality. Had a lecture today, but no tutorial. Good start.

Finally seem to have nailed the problem I’ve been trying to solve for the better half of the last week. This means I suddenly am ahead of my deadlines again, yay! Lots of cleaning up can be done though—got a few ideas to interface change as well now that I have started to code.

Managed to catch a cold while in Brussels. A bit dissapointed with Manneken Pis—it’s not exactly big…

Installed libraries needed for OpenGL tutorial tomorrow and tested a small program to make sure everything works. It’ll be interresting, I think (hope).

FOSDEM weekend. Went on the Eurostar from Waterloo. Luckily our train was neither cancelled nor breaking down. Saw talks by many famous people, including John `Maddog’ Hall, Richard M. Stallman, Owen Taylor and others.

Highlight of today was teasing the friend who had waaaay too much to drink yesterday. Next in line was probably sharing a cab with Michael Meeks. He seems a really likeable guy, and generously lent me his UK->European plug converter so I could charge my laptop. Silly me didn’t buy one while I had the chance.

Had proper Belgian Waffles with ice cream, whipped cream and hot, dark chocolate sauce in the evening. Just before I had had a rather nice kebab. Not seen Manneken Pis yet.

Getting further along with my project. Two problems in particular have been bothering me today. One was a mysterious segfault inside a library I had already tested thoroughly, or so I thought. It turned out I passed an invalid argument to the function. Oops. The other problem was an extraordinarily abhorrent memory leak that I just plugged.

Judging from the time I should have been fast asleep long since—I’m due to be in uni at in a few hours. I just can’t sleep. Tom Lord have finally decided to release another version of the arch revision control system. It is completely superior to CVS in my (and many others’) opinion. Get it at http://regexps.srparish.net/src/arch/.

I just sent off a scathing email to our student magazine’s editorial staff. They had managed to squeeze in at least eight spelling and / or grammatical errors in a 160 word editorial. Even a troglodyte like me can do better than that!

Un-messed a corner of my room that’s been causing me grief for a long time. Now mysteriously have an empty and two half-full boxes nicely stacked where I previously had three boxes completely overflowing. This fact made them a pain in the backside to stack aswell.

I have an evaluation function to write. I think my current (incredibly naive) evaluation function is the reason my library acts a bit funny. I don’t think I’m far from a working prototype now, it looks promising.

Hmm. Getting a bit further implementing code for my project. In the process discovered things that made me unsure about the suitability of parts of it. I will have to rethink this a bit.

I deserve a medal. Today I’ve (gasp) cleaned the toilet (somewhat). The rug from the floor is currently in the washing machine, and I’ve finished washing the floor and the walls. I’m 100% confident that I don’t want to know what those stains on the wallpaper was. I proceeded to wash parts of the kitchen—basically scrubbing the floor and lower half of the wall around the bin. I’ll happily live ignorant about the contents of those stains as well.

Trying to get some work done, while waiting for Tom’s upcoming release of the `arch’ revision control system.
