Banking and Shrek

February 29, 2004

Made another attempt at presenting the co-operative bank with proof of address and identity details yesterday. Went to Watford this time, instead of the Islington branch, which screwed up last time. Stopped at Blockbusters in Edgware and rented “Shrek” on the way back. Had heard it was a good film, but must admit to being possitively surprised. What a refreshing breath of fresh air amid all the sugar-sweet full-length cartoons! Thoroughly enjoyable.

Much shopping

Went to four supermarkets in as many hours today. IKEA, Wing Yip (chinese supermarket), Sainsbury’s Homebase and Sainsbury’s. For some time it looked like we had to go to Oriental City too, but luckily Wing Yip had what we needed.

Bought some waterplants, an Aloe Vera potplant and a Bonzai-lookalike thing at IKEA to help cleanse the air in the flat. Also bought a sheepskin and some storage boxes. At Wing Yip we bought Chinese beer, cake and the smallest wok I’ve ever seen, and at Homebase we bought hooks. Lastly we bought ingredients for a pear crumble at Sainsbury’s.

Today I’ve finally setup my own Debian repository. Setting this up was surprisingly easy after reading the Debian repository howto. I started playing with creating Debian packages of some of my projects a few weeks ago, and a bit more today. They are all available here:

deb http://brautaset.org/debian unstable/
deb-src http://brautaset.org/debian unstable/

Went to see “Lost in Translation” with Nadia on Thursday. Quite funny in parts, and though it was perhaps a bit slow-paced I think it was a fine film overall.

Update, March 9th: fixed deb stanzas.

Deaf, dumb, blind…

At least my diary is now mute no more. I’ve finally redone the bit of my site that allows me to add diary entries since I changed to using Perl with HTML::Mason from using PHP + Smarty a few weeks ago. I thought Smarty was really good in the beginning, but it turned out to be rather cumbersome. Mason is miles better, I think now.

Been busy at work and with learning this Perl/Mason thing, so not done much more work on my other projects. Started learning how to build debian packages though. Got some packages built which I think are okay, but need to find out how to make a private mirror.

Saw Charlie’s Angels II this evening. A really, really silly film…
