Free Paradise Lost ticket for the taking
December 5, 2007
Want to join me seeing Paradise Lost at the Islington Academy this evening at 19:00? I have a spare ticket to give away. Send me an email at stig@brautaset.org with your name and phone number if you’re interested. First come first serve.
Rolling Stones
August 9, 2007
Mom, my friend Stein and I saw Rolling Stones live at Valle Hovin last night, along with nearly forty thousand other people. Mom has been wanting to see them for ages and had bought 3 tickets when she finally got the chance.
Stein and I were really impressed with the intensity of the big screen. I wonder what they use? This screen, by the way, added a lot to the concert as it was very hard to see anything on stage from where we were (around the middle). Mom enjoyed Jagger’s geriatric dancing. (She laughed a lot.) Jagger also impressed by speaking Norwegian quite well. Oh, and there was some music playing.
All the old favourites… Great fun!
Spare bed in Oslo 4th to 8th August?
July 28, 2007
I’m in Oslo August 4th to 14th (going to see Rolling Stones on the 8th) and I have no place to sleep on the 4th to 8th. I did have vague promises from a friend, but that fell through (his work sent him to Denmark unexpectedly). Contact me if you can help, or if you simply want to meet up.
Ask Later
July 26, 2006
Steve Coast and Tom Carden arranged an evening of talks using the Pecha Kucha format (unfortunately they ran into trademark issues so the night was renamed to Ask Later on short notice). Nevertheless, good fun was had by all.
Matt’s talk about building an automated Sudoku solver to win $PAPER’s Sudoku challenge seemed to draw the biggest cheer. It came complete with its own homebrewed OCR component, to deal with the dodgy scanned JPG format the challenge was presented in. Unfortunately, just as he finished his fully automatic Soduko solver the $PAPER stopped presenting today’s challenge on the web…
Moving-in party
April 26, 2006
Stein came over from Norway Sunday morning. We spent a few hours catching up and reminiscing about the past before going to Yo! Sushi at the N1 centre (beware, eeevil site with music) for dinner with Nadia. Nadia went home afterwards while we went to the pub. The rest of the evening is a bit blurry, but I woke up the next day partly dressed and with a severe hangover. A plastic fork in my pocket revealed that I’d had kebab the previous night.
After drinking lots of water and eating dry bread we decided that we needed some fresh air, so Stein and I walked to the office and picked up Nadia’s iBook (she had it delivered there since we were in the middle of a move). Nadia stayed home looking after the washing machine; I had put new washers in and we were running it for the first time in almost three years.
On the way back we got a bit lost trying to take the bus and save ourselves some walking. Not knowing quite where we were we had English breakfast for lunch, served by a very enthusiastic young man. We were then pointed in the direction of Essex Road and started making our way back home. On the way there we accidentally found the pub I’d invited people to that evening. This was rather lucky, since I still have no internet connection at home and I’d forgotten to print out directions there from my flat.
Monday evening Stein, Nadia and I went to the Canonbury Tavern. Not long after more friends than I thought I had started turning up–more than 20 people in the end. Dean said I owed him a alot of money as he had paid many of them to turn up (at least I hope he was joking). Thanks to all who came; you made it as soon to “my perfect night out” as you can reasonably assume ever experiencing.
London Cocoa Developers’ meeting
April 11, 2006
I went to a London Cocoa developers meeting for the first time today. It was very interesting. The group is much smaller than the other geek groups I frequent (Lonix, GLLUG & London.pm) but I was not dissapointed and I’ll probably go again next month. It was an eclectic mix of friendly geeks of all ages. Great.
New shirt day
June 20, 2004
Went with Nadia to the Allergy show at Olympia. Nadia want to do a food intolerance test we were introduced to, while I want to buy a silk duvet. Aparently, these are not so hot in the summer and quite warm in the winter. They are also uninhabitable by dustmites. For me, being allergic to said dustmites, this is a killing feature.
Had lunch at Pizza Express before we went on to Bond street for some long overdue shopping. I bought three shirts at Burton before we went on to Debenhams where I bought seven more shirts, one pair of shorts and four pair of socks. Madness, really. Shouldn’t need to shop for clothes in a while though.
Had a hard time staying awake on the tube on the way back.
Tue 30 Apr 2002
April 30, 2002
Went to City University for a mini-conference arranged by “Campaign For Digital Rights”. Left with two friends after Alan Cox was done talking, and were later told that it was one of our better ideas… We went straight for the pub. Subsequently, most of our group ended up at a Curry place in Brick lane. The remainder of our group spent the rest of the night stalking Alan Cox, trying to compare beards.
