Action movie

Oh God, yes! Powers that be, please please make it so!

Transporter 2

Kick-ass film. That is all.

Napoleon Dynamite

March 11, 2006

So.. boring… Loosing.. will.. to.. live…

Presumably you have to stay awake for at least three days, drink all the participants of an AA meeting under the table and get high as a kite before this thing gets funny. I had to take many breaks while watching this film. Trying to watch it all in one go would have ended in me slashing my wrists from boredom.

Munich

February 6, 2006

Come Sunday nigth all the festivities of the weekend’s stag do were over and a few of us went to see Munich at Colosseum in Oslo (possibly still the largest THX cinema in the world with room for 978).

I liked the film. It managed to portray both sides as people, not just machines that do good or evil. It’s a testament to how interesting the film was that I not once noticed how tired I really was until afterwards (we had been to a stag weekend after all).

As usual when I go to the cinema I developed a strong urge to brush my teeth. Damn popcorn skins.

I saw it last weekend. I’m pretty indifferent to it, though I think it’s a film to keep fans of the book(s) happy; it would be rather baffling if you’re not familiar with the story. Trillian was cute though.

Blade Trinity

October 8, 2005

Though Snipe’s character was one-dimensional and dull as ever, Blade Trinity on a whole is actually quite enjoyable. This was pulled off by giving the great support cast more screen time. The story was thin as usual, but I don’t let that get in the way of good entertainment.

Blade’s two sidekicks, motormouth wise guy Hannibal King (Ryan Reynolds) and eye candy Abigail Whistler (Jessica Biel), were both good. Unbeknownst to Blade their team were doing their homework killing vampires and figuring out what the vampires were up to, before coming to Blade’s help busting him out of prison. The fool had managed to get his friend killed and himself arrested. Blade, ever thankful, didn’t want their help at first but knew he could not carry the film alone so gave in in the end.

Of the vampires I particularly liked Parker Posey’s character Danica Talos. She had a wonderful world-weary rock-star feel about her, as if she found everything dreary and almost terminally boring. Her interactions with King got her juices flowing though; you could feel him winding her up.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream

September 13, 2005

Yesterday a Shakespeare classic arrived at our doorstep, courtesy of Amazon DVD rentals. Not having seen a stage adaption, nor having read the manuscript, I had the benefit of watching it with an open mind.

I must admit to having a bit of problems following the dialogue (or, rather, the succession of monologues that seemed to pass for dialogue) at first, but it turned easier after a while. It turned out to be a lot merrier than I’d imagined. Unsurprisingly (for the classic meaning of comedy) it had a happy ending, which I’m always a sucker for.

I really liked Rupert Everett as Oberon. Stanley Tucci as Robin Goodfellow was also great. I’m not normally a fan of Calista Flockhart, but she did a pretty good job here, playing Helena. Kevin Kline as Nick Bottom was really cringeworthy, which I guess that was part of the point.

All in all, good fun.

The Incredibles

March 23, 2005

I saw The Incredibles last night. It was great.

Kill Bill 2

November 13, 2004

Don’t even bother. It’s crap.

Banking and Shrek

February 29, 2004

Made another attempt at presenting the co-operative bank with proof of address and identity details yesterday. Went to Watford this time, instead of the Islington branch, which screwed up last time. Stopped at Blockbusters in Edgware and rented “Shrek” on the way back. Had heard it was a good film, but must admit to being possitively surprised. What a refreshing breath of fresh air amid all the sugar-sweet full-length cartoons! Thoroughly enjoyable.
